How to study and work from home
Studying and working from home isn't easy. You may start with good intentions to study, and revise, but these can quickly fall by the wayside. However, there are ways to way to make it work.
The most important step is to create a daily structure for yourself that puts you in work mode. Use your school framework for this as it's already clear in your mind. Wake up at a set time, work for set hours and take regular breaks as you would at college or school. Not only will this help with your motivation, but it will also stop you from going stir crazy.
Many schools will provide remote learning modules, but there are also ample free resources for learning and revising that can help you whatever key stage you are at, as well as online tuition via a whiteboard from the comfort of your home.
If you are revising check out our blog posts for advice on how to revise for a variety of subjects including biology, Chemistry, Physics and maths to name but a few.
Other essential work and study from home tips include:
1. .Set up a clutter-free work area (here's why) - don't work from your bed, sofa or your phone as you are more likely to be distracted.
2. Communicate with teachers and tutors if you are confused or need help. Teachers will be online, and we have tutors for every level and subject who offer online tuition.
3. Use online resources, BBC Bitesize covers from primary and KS1 right through to KS3 and GCSEs. See our blog post for a list of maths GCSE resources.
4. If you need immediate help use YouTube for video tutorials on maths and science by teachers or students that have already been there and done that.
5. This is one time to use your phone. Facetime, WhatsApp groups, Skype and apps like Slack can be brilliant for revision and study sessions and motivation with your peers.
6. Think outside of the box when it comes to general learning. If you aren't studying for GCSEs or A-levels, reading fiction and non-fiction every day and watching science and historical documentaries on Netflix is an excellent form of learning. Mix and match what you do to keep it interesting and also keep you engaged in subjects.
7. Go outside for walk where possible once a day. Fresh air and getting outside will help both mentally and physically and also will break up your day.
