Hi, I'm Aaron! I am a full-time teacher at a prestigious private school in Switzerland. I am also the Head of English for the well-known 11+ company: Exam Insider. This is the premier 11+ online learning platform: it has helped hundreds of children gain coveted seats at the UK's most reputable schools. I write the content and deliver all English videos published on their online learning platform.
As a practising teacher, I hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate. Since becoming a tutor I have worked with students all over the world and from varying backgrounds: independent school students desiring enrichment lessons; members of the royal family in a Middle Eastern country; clever but unchallenged children from the age of six upwards; those preparing for entrance exams in the UK; mature students who just wish to nurture or rekindle their love of books.
As I have just migrated over to first tutors and have not yet built up comments in the feedback section, I can provide references details for those who wish to speak with families I have worked with in the past.#/k#
I have been teaching for ten years in Outstanding independent schools both in London and internationally (my current school is ranked in the top 2% of schools worldwide). With over a decade of experience as an 11+ & 13+ tutor, I have successfully guided scores of children to admission places (and scholarships) at London's most prestigious schools, such as Eton, Winchester, Kings Wimbledon, LEH, St Paul's Girls', Putney High and many more.
My philosophy
The 11+ journey is one that I am passionate about. As I have written and marked entrance exams for children hoping to gain entry into Year 7, I have a very different philosophy underpinning my tuition practice to other tutors: I do not teach to the test. Instead, I take a more holistic approach ensuring that the children reach their full academic potential. I teach children to understand the different approaches to problem-solving: I show them how to be creative when writing a story while keeping a simple plot that will enable them to 'show off' their writing ability to its fullest. 11+ examiners encounter hundreds of over-prepared robot-like candidates. Therefore the children who have experienced this type of preparation shine among the masses.
Who I work with
I am selective in the students and parents I work with and accept only a few a year. At times, I am available for a short burst of intensive lessons. I am looking to work with parents who are prepared to be a part of this journey and are happy to listen to the advice I share. This will often involve printing additional homework, sending photos of their completed work and spending five to ten minutes at the end of each session with me so we can discuss how I would like you to help consolidate your child's learning, which often takes the form of role play: you become the student and your child the teacher.
Teaching style
I know that children learn best through positive praise and being provided with the correct amount of challenge. Every child I tutor walks into the exam hall full of confidence in their own ability — ensuring they perform to their best. I make learning fun: 'How is that one hour already' is a question that I often hear and one that makes me smile. On many occasions, after a student gains entry to their desired school they seek enrichment lessons from me, which is a true testament to how my philosophy encourages a lifelong love of learning and fosters academic curiosity.
