Hi and thank you for taking time to read through my profile. Unlike other tutors on this site that may have studied a degree in science, I am a qualified, experienced and practising science teacher specialising in the teaching of A level biology and all my documentation has been provided on this platform so rest assured you are in experienced and secure hands.
I have over a decade of teaching experience as an advanced teacher, examiner for A Level Biology (examiner for AQA) and school leader after having worked in 5 large schools across the West Midlands and London; year on year my class results always demonstrate incredible progress for all learners with many going on to secure their first place at prestigious Universities.
I have a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) in Human Biology from the University of Birmingham (Russell group and Redbrick University). I have a teaching postgraduate degree (PGCE) from the University of Warwick (Russell group and Redbrick University). I have also completed my Masters in Educational leadership (MEd) from the University of Buckingham.
As a qualified teacher and leader not only am I aware of all the specification requirements and different pedagogical approaches needed to raise attainment, I train other teachers on how to do this too. I have access to bespoke and current teaching materials not available to everyone, with a view to support pupils in achieving the best grade possible for A Level Biology. This subject is known as one of the most challenging A levels to study nationally which is further justified by the low grade boundaries for the higher grades, knowing the knowledge is not enough, you have to be able to teach it in a manner that does not lead to cognitive overload and allows pupils to maximise their working memory.
As an examiner for AQA I am able to support learners by developing good exam technique which is vital if you wish to gain maximum marks from exam papers. At this level, it is not just the content that pupils need to be confident with, but the application of the content in line with the three assessment objectives that the course is based on. The exam will also include a synoptic essay which will be a key component of paper 3 and requires a high degree of skill and intellect to build and gain maximum marks; the essay is pivotal if your child wishes to gain a top grade. One of my recent tutees scored the highest grade nationally and is now studying medicine at University of Birmingham.
Working with me, your child will develop a clarity to engage and understand the entire specification as well as the necessary practical elements demonstrated by the 12 A Level Biology Required Practical experiments which are assessed in paper 3.
My students and tutees have gone on to study at Russell Group Universities having secured their place within highly competitive undergraduate courses including Medicine, Neuroscience, Nursing, Psychology and Law to mention a few; I am confident that we can get the best grade for your child.
Please note, as a practising teacher I have very limited availability and only offer online services. I am unable to support your child if they are studying any other examination board other than AQA specification.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this and look forward to hearing from you soon.
I have been a science teacher at 5 different schools and I have led on teaching and learning within schools. I have extensive experience of teaching the AQA specification.I have access to hundreds of resources, past exam papers and teaching materials to deliver a more effective teaching and learning experience as well as predicted papers that prepare pupils to prioritise revision based on trends and patterns in previous assesments.
I like my pupils to tell me beforehand what areas they require help in so that I can create a bespoke learning plan where we can address those issues that require help and look at strengthening the basics. I am confident in delivering understanding verbally and then I like to test what we have learned by using tests to demonstrate understanding using the various formative assessment techniques I have picked up as a teacher.
Due to unprecedented demand and a lack of availability to offer 121 sessions due to job as teacher, I offer a cost efficient and effective new model where I offer a weekly Year 12 and Year 13 biology A level class charged at £35 per hour. In each class we will aim to cover the following where possible
