I am a personable, fully qualified English teacher who is able to build great professional relationships with students and to motivate them to achieve their potential. I am passionate about both teaching and the subject of English and strive to ensure that all of my students have a great chance at success. With a first class degree in English with Creative Writing, I have the knowledge and experience to ensure my students succeed.
I have been teaching at a school rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted for 5 years. This includes both classroom teaching and remote learning using various online platforms and approaches. I have also tutored for over 7 years to various age groups. I have taught a variety of texts and have taken a number of classes of different abilities through their GCSE years, helping them to secure some excellent grades and to achieve their full potential.
I am currently the year 7 curriculum lead for English and have previously worked as a deputy head of year.
I like to use a blend of discussion, demonstration and independent work so that students are supported in various ways according to the task. I am encouraging and motivating and am able to quickly assess student strengths and targets for improvement. I like to share my passion for literature with students to encourage them to enjoy their learning. As a teacher, I use scientifically backed approaches, such as retrieval practice and interleaving to ensure students' learning sticks, and that they are able to manage the heavy content of English Literature.
