I am a Masters student in the Applied Economics and Data Analysis program at the University of Essex, Colchester.
My first degree was in Economics (graduated with a First Class and with a top marks in quantitative subjects). In addition to this I studied Engineering from 1997 to 2001.
During my undergraduate degree, I taught Mathematics, Statistics and Economics to students in my class and lower classes. My fellowship group also appointed me as head of an academic mentorship program where I taught and coordinated even more support sessions for students struggling with various problems. In all, my experience sums up to more than four years on a part-time basis.
My teacher, Professor Melvyn Coles, who graduated from Cambridge with a First Class in Mathematics and has a PhD in Economics from Princeton presented the secret to Mathematics as:'Don't Panic. Take your time, be systematic and tidy up whenever possible.'
He is one of the best teachers I have ever seen and a personal role model. His influence is such that I constantly remember his words when doing my work and apply these simple steps in teaching and learning with consistent success.
These words form the crux of my teaching approach. You need to apply these steps too but you would need someone to guide you through the process. Me.
