An enthusiastic, calmly compassionate, PGCE certified, Geography, Physical Education (P.E.), Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher. Over thirteen years teaching experience including as HoD. 100% pass and success rate for A Level / GCSE Geography, PE and EPQ since I began teaching in 2011. Professional, full-time tutor, dedicated to students' success. Proficient using online tools such as Skype, Zoom, G-drive and G-docs. Shared resources are included in the tuition. I teach EFL and ESL and am TEFL certified. Experience as a teacher in English (EFL) at Princess Nora University in Saudi Arabia. More recently, I was an English teacher at a prestigious boarding school in France teaching French Baccalaureate English Language, English Literature and Geo-histoire (Geopolitics) through the medium of English. All students passed with distinctions and merits.
Academically, I have a first class BSc. Honours Degree, a Masters (MA.) and a Secondary PGCE (MA.). I am passionate about teaching and learning and this shows in my approach to education. I am positive, highly motivated by facilitating development of self and individual success.I thrive on challenges that involve helping others. I use my mentoring experience with individual action planning which is crucial for success.
Previously Head of Department (HoD) for both A-Level PE and Geography and one year as an EFL teacher at Princess Nora University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Previously employed as an A-Level Geography and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) teacher at a top-ranking Sixth Form College in Hull, where I was also teaching GCSE English Language to students who were required to repeat the year, to fulfil a minimum 'C' grade from previous unsuccessful attempts. I was also employed previously at an award-winning Sixth Form School in Hertfordshire where I was a full-time Geography teacher.
Mentoring, plays a large part in one-to-one tuition, as you are not only a teacher, but an experienced and trusted advisor. I was employed as a mentor whilst still being a student myself, whilst studying as an undergraduate at a high school in Cardiff. Mentoring sessions were held for those students at risk of disengagement and who were borderline failing their GCSEs. Upon completion of the mentoring programme, the students grades performed significantly higher than expected; following weekly mentor meetings with me and upon completion of Individual Action Plans (IAPs) with SMART goals in place. My lessons are always fun, engaging and stimulating and will keep you thinking long after the lesson has finished.
Previously employed as a Continued Professional Development (CPD) presenter for a National U.K. exam board. I advised on the implementation of both the new A level and GCSE Physical Education specification in terms of its content, its delivery, examinations and non examined assessment (NEA). I travelled around the U. K. to various schools advising teachers and management of the NEA approaches and exam structure.
Other academic services that I offer are not related to content but more about the development of self:
i. Academic coaching that can be used with any subject; with general exam technique, revision tools, time management and how to use your knowledge base to best advantage;
ii. Help with writing personal statements for UCAS applications;
iii. CV writing service for job applications.
Subject knowledge is very important and plays a large part in passing exams. I can help you to obtain this by providing you with relevant content, my exam expertise, additional reading material that is not necessarily in your textbook. All of this will give you "the edge" when answering your extended answers (especially at AS and A-Level)... However, what if I told you that knowledge is only one part?
The key factor is having the tools to utilise that knowledge to the best advantage and answer the question as accurately as possible. This is where your exam experience and ability to deconstruct language comes in...
Understanding command words like "Evaluate", "Discuss" and "To what extent..." are crucial in obtaining the best results (especially in extended essay answers). Exam techniques and revision planning are also crucial factors to guarantee success. I aim to show students how to work 'smarter' and not necessarily 'harder'. I combine both a teaching and mentoring approach so that clear goals are realistic, achievable and are individual to each student's needs. We agree on an Action plan together using SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and within a designated Time scale). Thus ensuring that the student will never feel overwhelmed or feel that the goals are unrealistic. I can also offer integrated packages for GCSE and/or A Level PE and Geography together. I can also provide fully planned sessions to support remote learning or missed teaching for all students from Year 7 all the way to A level through to Year 13. That can be whether they are facing exams this year or not.
Please see testimonials below of such instances where students were supported throughout. For example, preparation for Year 8 end of year tests or merely parents just wanted to ensure that their missed classes were all "caught up" before the following academic year had begun.
Just to provide an idea of some previous tuition success stories:
An AQA A-Level PE student, who I had taught online for six months during the pandemic of 2020, came to me for help as she had attained a D-grade prior to tuition. The August 2020 results revealed that she had moved from a predicted D-grade previously, to an A-grade!! She had also received a certificate of outstanding achievement in PE, from her respective Principal at the college, to mark her achievement in such a short space of time. The parents were so overjoyed that I had a phone call with tears expressing thanks, and a gift sent to me in the post to thank me for my efforts with her throughout the year. Needless to say that anything is possible if we put our mind into action. This was one of the biggest highlights and successes of Summer 2020 for me.
An A-Level OCR PE Student in Cardiff who previously attained a 'U' Grade (prior to tuition) for her AS PE exam. Her mum contacted me for extra help via online lessons from September 2016 to June 2017. I was overjoyed to find out that she had attained a 'B' Grade for her A Level PE Summer 2017 exams. She has now secured her chosen university place studying a BSc. Hons. Degree in Sport Science.
Another example is an Edexcel A Level PE student who previously attained a 'U' grade (prior to tuition) in his mock exams in January 2017. His father contacted me wanting extra help via online lessons from January 2017 to June 2017. He has since achieved a 'C' grade and following this success will continue his tuition with me into his second year of exams.
Another success story was where I tutored a GCSE Geography student in Hull. She travelled to my home address and also received online Skype lessons. She successfully achieved an A* in GCSE Geography in August 2017 and has now secured a place at college to study all of her A-Level choices that she wanted to pursue. (Please see references below for more details)
Finally, I tutored a student online for GCSE PE where she was predicted a B Grade by her teachers. However, following lessons with me for around five months, she achieved a Grade 9 - which is equivalent to an A*! (Please see references below for more details).
If you would like any more information of what I offer please do not hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
