I am a recent graduate from King's College London offering tuition in maths for anyone up to GCSE level.
Having completed a degree in Maths I know the struggles of not being able to solve problems and understand what it takes to excel in exams. I believe that my firm knowledge and understanding of maths allows me to convey ideas in a simple and effective manner in order to help students grasp difficult concepts.
My hours are flexible and as I am currently living in the Worcester Park area I am willing to travel within the Borough of Kingston. Alternatively, I’m also offering online tuition via Zoom.
I started teaching when I was studying for my GCSEs and A-levels, by helping out my fellow classmates and friends and since then I have been volunteering to teach students in the year below at my University. What used to be a hobby turned out to be a successful and valuable experience that I've further relished through privately tutoring many students for over two years now.
I believe that children need to be taught with enthusiasm in order to be able to enjoy mathematics, only then will they achieve excellence in it. Therefore I like to create a very relaxed and interactive environment, usually by getting students to draw diagrams using a whiteboards and asking them follow up questions to make sure their brain processes information well.
Of course, every student isn't the same and has a different way of understanding different subjects, therefore what I'd like to do first is try and establish which method the student is most responsive of and then teach in that style. This also allows me to identify the child's weaknesses and take proactive steps to strengthen them such as re-teaching specific topics. To me, its very important that my student is comfortable with me so that I can build their confidence and motivate them all the way.
I know that maths is most students least favourite subject at school and when I was younger I used to feel the same way but with time and experience I've realised that maths can be fun too, it all depends on how you teach it. The wrong approach can make you really despise the subject, however the right approach can create opportunities to laugh and play games. It is my aim to help students rediscover the joy of maths.
