Hi, I'm Aidan. Originally from Newcastle I've moved around the UK quite a bit in the past with work and moved back to Scotland in 2014 ago after having lived in Cardiff (for the 2nd time) for a year or two. I've had a varied academic and working career but am now happily working as a university lecturer and researcher.
I should say that due to other commitments, I travel a lot which can make finding a consistent time every week a bit tricky - I can always find something, but need a bit of flexibility. The other side of that of course is that I’ll be just as flexible for you when I can be!
I originally tutored many years ago when at university (the first time, I've been more than once!) and then let it fall off, but have now tutored students in Scotland, England and Wales for several years (since 2011), with excellent feedback from them all. In addition as already mentioned I am currently working as a university lecturer teaching various engineering, science, maths and technology subjects, from individuals to groups of over 100, and at all levels from pre- GCSE/Nat 4 to Masters. I am also a member of various SQA teams, involved in writing, checking and marking of various qualifications including physics from Nat 5 through to advanced higher.
I have an open and welcoming approach to tutoring. To me all forms of teaching should be about getting the student to build on the knowledge the already have to work things out for themselves as this much improves their recall later-and it's also more enjoyable for them (and me). Obviously, there will be some imparting of facts and figures where necessary and also how to perform certain tasks as required but to me this should be kept to a minimum and the student should be allowed to develop their own ideas and knowledge. With the right approach students tend to surprise themselves with what they already know!
