I'm an enthusiastic, warm and compassionate lover of learning. I know that sometimes students need one-to-one attention in order to focus and get the results they need to progress with their ambitions. I am particularly interested in working with neurodiverse students who present with ASD.
I have a doctorate in Art Education, and have previously worked as a journalist, an arts producer, and a Secondary School English teacher, through which I hold Qualified Teacher Status.
I have a broad knowledge base and particularly enjoy expanding a student's knowledge beyond the curriculum.
Four years' experience as a Secondary School Teacher of English. I am experienced working with students through Key Stages 3, 4, & 5 (Years 7 - 13, GCSE & A Level, including GCSE re-sits). I have worked with neurodiverse students, university students needing study-skills help and essay support and have successfully helped previous tutees jump grades in their exams.
I am a fully qualified Teacher of English with a background in the arts and education sectors. I have a breadth of knowledge covering English Literature up to and including university level, functional and creative writing skills, creative and critical pedagogy, gender studies and the arts.
I have a Doctorate in Art Education. I have a DBS certificate that is on the update service, I regularly take on supply teaching in schools and I am up to date on Safeguarding and the wellbeing of children and young people, which I take very seriously.
I take a student-centred approach to learning, which means it is led by the needs of the student. It is important to first understand what the student is struggling with. Then together we will make a tailored plan moving forwards, with student-led outcomes that are achievable and realistic. I support the student to expand their knowledge, their vocabulary and I support a general love of learning while also getting results. I take a warm and generous approach which is kind and nurturing, and I endeavour to create a collaborative experience, which helps the student to feel invested in their learning process.
