I am a qualified Primary School teacher with 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, currently working in an outstanding school. I take a positive approach to tutoring, helping children to boost their self esteem as well as their academic abilities.
I have been teaching for 15 years and have a wealth of experience in teaching and tutoring children within both KS1 and KS2 (ages 4-11). I have taught all classes from Reception to year 6 and am currently teaching a year 1 class in an outstanding school. I have been the Maths Leader in my school for many years. I have lots of experience with early reading and phonics, as well as preparing for end of key stage exams (SATS).
Throughout my career I have taught children with English as an additional language and children with Special Educational Needs.
My teaching strategies differ according to each child’s age, abilities and confidence, however with all children I aim to teach objectives through high quality modelling and use of engaging activities. I understand that children retain information better when interested in the teaching and so games and other interactive activities are incorporated within tutoring sessions.
In order to have a clear plan for moving forward, it is important to understand the child’s current abilities and identify any gaps/ misconceptions held. I take time to understand the starting point of a child at initial meetings.
