My name is Alexia and I am a Belgian student studying Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Southampton.
I have experience in online tutoring French and English to both children and adults. In addition to this, I have learnt to engage with younger children during my work as an in-class supporter in a primary school and as an assistant in a youth club.
My approach differs depending on the student (their age, interest in the subject, their end goal, the amount of time they have, etc).
I would say that when it comes to learning a language, total or partial immersion (depending on the level of the student) is the best way to get quick and successful results as it forces the student to be comfortable with the language as quickly as possible.
For students wishing to improve their knowledge in Classical Civilisation, my first step would be to make sure that they truly enjoy the subject. Classical Civilisation is such a broad subject that has the potential to intrigue each and everyone. This is an idea that many teachers forget to share when rigidly following their syllabus. Yet, in order to be good in the subject you need to do a lot of reading and most students will not read that amount unless they are interested.
