A professional and established tutor, I have a fully enhanced DBS check and am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. I graduated with my BA in Music with English Literature from the University of Huddersfield in 2011 and have been tutoring privately for Music and English students since 2012.
I have been teaching music privately since April 2012, both at home and at local schools. I have taught ages ranging from 3 to 80.
I believe that engaging with the students and finding out what interests them about a subject is of great importance. I have been successful in turning people in their early teens on to the subject of Music Theory, which is usually considered a very dry topic by most professionals! I believe any subject can be interesting when approached from the correct angle.
I strive to make lessons enjoyable and interesting, encouraging students to think creatively and bringing new perspectives to the lessons. Rather than giving answers, I ask questions and prompt students to reach their own conclusions. I often use games and other fun approaches to explain musical concepts, and constantly adapt my teaching to fit the learning style of the student.
