I have been teaching for over 20 years in maintained and independent schools. Until recently, I was a headteacher but ensured I maintained my commitment to the classroom by supporting exam classes during that time. Prior to teaching, I was a journalist for four years for regional newspapers. I studied English at Oxford University and took my PGCE at Leeds University.
I've taught Year 6 through to Y13. I delivered courses in GCSE English Language and Literature and A levels in English Literature, English Language and Literature and English Language. I have also taught the Extended Project Qualification and have supported students applying for English at University with exam and interview technique. I have delivered AQA and OCR syllabuses at GCSE and A level and have undertaken public exam marking. I have a DBS certificate that I am happy to share on request.
I believe that all students learn differently, so the approach is very much student focused and and on building confidence. We start with the 'what you can do'. We can establish a short-term approach to tackle specific exam questions or topics, or we can scaffold longer term support. I offer a free 15 minute 'no commitment remote meeting' to enables us to discuss the support you require and how you would like us to work. I am happy for a parent/ carer to attend the meeting. I'll set short tasks for you to complete between sessions, which will feed into the next session.
