Private Maths and English Tuition in Solihull

I am Amaan, a University of Birmingham graduate with 3 years of private tutoring experience. I have a huge passion passion for learning, and one of my favourite things to do is teach others what I have learnt. It gives me a great sense of joy and reward to help somebody else learn something I know, especially when they have been struggling with it. I am both polite and punctual and all of my students, friends and family describe me as a strong, confident and welcoming communicator. I love to talk and understand people, I enjoy working with others and building relationships, but I am always focused on the task at hand. I am adaptable and understanding and always ensure to be empathetic with others as I know not everyone is the same.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching academic studies for the past 3 years. While in college I was approached by family members to teach their young children GCSE subjects after they had seen how much progress my siblings were making from being taught by me. I was enjoying teaching and found that I was both really good at it and well liked by the students. Word spread through to friends of the parents and I started to make quite a name for myself in teaching GCSE students privately. I then branched out and utilised online tutoring, which I found to be just as effective as in-person tuition, but more convenient and comfortable for all parties involved. For the last 3 years I have tutored many students, cooked up a formula that works and learnt a lot about how to deal with different types of children (with different abilities) by being flexible with my teaching style. In 3 years I can proudly say I have not had ONE complaint from a parent who's child I have taught.

Tutoring Approach

I am a very strategic and system based person in my day to day life, and this is no different in the work that I do.

Firstly, I look to get to know the student, create an overview of their ability and identify their strengths and weaknesses - This is usually done in the first lesson.

I then look to create a road map of how we will tackle these weaknesses and ensure that the student plugs the gaps in the studies. I ensure content is covered and foundations are strong, and then my main focus is to focus on structure and strategy, which I believe is the most important aspects of the academic exams.

I teach my students a strategic way of reading, understanding, tackling and planning answers to questions. I focus the way they think and the key skills they need to identify what the question is asking in terms of what tools and skills it is testing.

I also provide them with the tools to be able to understand how to structure answers based on what they question is looking for. If they can identify what the question is asking and then use this information to select the correct structure to provide everything the question is asking then it becomes as easy as slotting information to fill in the blanks.

Once content foundations are deemed strong, I teach the structure and strategy by heavily focusing on exam practice. Going through exam questions with students, analysing mark schemes and altering their thought process to see questions in a strategic way and make it muscle memory for them.

Now you may ask why, and the reason is simple. The academic exams, especially the GCSE exams, can only vary so much. What they are testing will not change, and the content rarely changes. This means the types of questions and the skills they test, as well as the answers required, are repetitive. So after content foundations are solid, loads of exam practice with targeted on process - from how to read and understand a question, to planning an answer and writing it - There is little room for error and failure. Success becomes automatic.
