I am a fully qualified Business Studies teacher with a friendly and approachable personality. I am a Business Studies Teacher with a particular interest in Higher Administration and I enjoy helping students increase their confidence in the subject, by using a variety of different teaching methods.
I have a wealth of course notes and past papers as well as hands on experience in preparing young people for their assignments and exams.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with with my (very energetic) young children and going to the gym and pilates classes.
I have worked in customer service roles as well as within the admissions department of a university, furthermore I have worked abroad. All of these roles provide topics for discussion when explaining questions and course content by using real life examples.
Within my teaching position I am responsible for classes within the broad general education and the senior phase as well as developing courses as an ongoing progress. I have been teaching National 5 Business and National 5 Admin since 2017 and Higher Admin since 2018. I have also marked N5 Business and H Admin for SQA for a number of years. I consider myself to be an energetic and creative teacher; I strive to convey quality and stimulating lessons, whilst having high expectations of my learners.
I have experience teaching learners with a variety of additional support needs including ASD and ADHD. In addition to this, I am supporting my own daughter who displays traits of ASD meaning I am aware of various strategies that work well for these learners.
The skills learners get from Business and Admin Courses are desirable in almost every job, I like to prove this to students by giving them questions and examples in a real life context. I also teach students to be resilient and use a growth mindset approach in order to reach their full potential. and work through questions logically, developing their problem solving skills.
I also focus on developing exam technique, helping students to gain all the marks they deserve within the allocated time frame. I like to break down the questions into timescales so that learners have the best opportunity in accessing the entire paper.
