Let me help you with your French, German or English studies! I've loved languages since my schooldays and have a BA degree (French and German) and a teaching qualification. As the mother of three, now grown-up children, who all excelled academically thanks to additional help from tutors where needed, I understand the power of good tuition. I'm a friendly, patient, flexible and focused tutor. Besides tutoring, I work from home as a French and German translator and proofreader/editor for a leading Hamburg-based translation agency (since 2006).
I'm available in the afternoons, evenings and weekends to tutor, either in your home or other location, distance permitting, and I am happy to use skype, zoom or other platform, as required.

Tutoring Experience

I qualified as a teacher in adult education in 1994 and since then have had teaching experience in various areas:
* I have taught French to adults at community college and also to children in after school clubs. I have also taught French conversation to adult group learners, and adults in their own homes, who are planning to move to France.
* I have taught German to adult learners at students at GCSE level.
* I have taught English conversation to French nationals online.
* I have also worked in a local secondary school as a French Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils to GCSE level with their spoken, written and listening tasks.

My translation work (French and German into English) requires a very high standard of written English, as the end-product has to be first-class, so I am well-equipped to teach English.
As well as French and German, my degree included creative writing in English and I have published a book of poetry and short stories.

Tutoring Approach

The student needs to feel at ease to be receptive. Stress is a barrier to learning, so I use a relaxed approach, and make sure the lesson content is relevant to the student, interesting and fun, using multimedia and online resources. Every student learns at a different pace, and has a different style of learning, starting point, and goals. Building on success is important with languages, and building confidence is paramount.
