I have always loved teaching and learning how to teach, always attempting to understand a concept fully before being tested on it, giving me a key foundation for teaching any topic. I try my best to keep a good level in every subject that I do, allowing me to teach any of the main subjects that I do with ease.
I have studied Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science and Psychology at A Level, and I am going on to do Computer Science at university.
I started mentoring in Year 12, where I taught students from years 7 and 8 within a classroom-type setting, as part of the Mathematics Society in my school. As part of the society, I taught them about topics in maths above their curriculum level, such as basic differentiation and derivation of trig identities, breaking it down for them to pique their interest in these topics, which also provided them with a solid base to find about a bit more themselves if they were interested.
I have also mentored 2 students 1-to-1:
I mentored a Year 11 student in a mixture of GCSE subjects which I myself was confident in, such as Computer Science, English and French. We worked on helping him improve his paragraph structure for writing essays, as well as testing him on French speaking role play questions which he was struggling in.
I also tutored a Year 10 student in Computer Science and Maths. We went through basic programming skills in Python, as well as going through GCSE Probability which he was struggling in, where I went through a concept with him, and later tasked him some exam style questions to really test his understanding.
All the progress that we have in our sessions will likely be kept in some kind of virtual notebook, such as OneNote. This will allow you to keep track of what we have done together, so that you can revisit it at a later date.
As demonstrated with my two previous mentees, I will take the time to go through any concepts that you are struggling with, helping you to understand why an idea works so that you can apply it yourself in different contexts.
I may also task you with questions to do in your own time: this is to get you into the habit of applying what you have learned to gain fluency as quickly as possible. I may also provide you with model solutions to check your answers independently, but please never hesitate to bring up anything that you are struggling with so that we can tackle it together.
