I specialise in delivering comprehensive tuition for AQA exam style GCSE and A Level history. My expertise spans a diverse range of topics, including:
Britain, Health and the People (1000 AD to the present)
Germany (1890–1945)
International Relations (1919–1939)
Elizabethan England (1558–1603)
The Cold War (1945–1968)
World War I and World War II
Broader English history (from 1066 onwards)
Irish History (1830s and 1919–22)
This focused approach ensures that students gain a deep understanding of key historical periods while effectively preparing for their exams.
I began teaching six years ago and am currently an AQA examiner for GCSE. Over these years, I have refined my approach to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring every student receives the guidance required to achieve academic excellence.
Helping students consistently exceed their expected grades. In my classes, 44% of students achieved at least one grade higher, with 20% surpassing their targets by two or more grades. Most recently, my exam classes outperformed school and national averages by 8%. My tailored and engaging curriculum at KS3, GCSE, and A-Level has supported students in achieving top grades, including A and A* at Post-16, with some progressing to study history at Oxbridge. I have extensive experience in inclusive teaching, particularly in supporting SEND students with adapted resources and 1-2-1 support.
My lessons begin with a review of previously covered material enabling me to gauge each student's understanding. I identify any knowledge gaps and then focus on targeted revision and exam skill practice. This systematic approach reinforces retention and builds the confidence for exam success. I believe in creating a learning environment where students can experience success. When they succeed, joy sparks natural curiosity and growth.
My philosophy centres on celebrating achievements and nurturing each learner’s potential, fostering lasting academic and personal development. Skills students will practice with me:
- Source analysis
- Writing practice
- Oracy practice
- Development of understanding of key historical concepts
