I have been a teacher for 20 years. My main subjects are Economics and Business Studies and Economics.. I have taught in several schools both in the UK and overseas, mostly in middle management posts, and am currently a head of department at a very high performing state school in Hertfordshire. I am also an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel and have examined for IB.
I am well-travelled and enjoy the experiences that this brings. Part of my unique selling point is that I have taught in both the private and state sectors and both here and overseas so I have a very wide range of experiences and learning needs
I have taught for 20 years and for a majority of these have been as Head of Department and as such I have led learning in a faculty so understand what makes an excellent lesson. I am able to provide a strong scaffold for learning in the classroom and transfer this skill into tutoring. Outside of the classroom I have been tutoring for most of my time in education however in an ad hoc way responding to individual requests from recommendation.
My approach to tutoring is student-led and very much based in the demands of the examinations that they will face. I establish a good, solid theoretical understanding of concepts and then make sure that each tutee can apply their understanding to exam questions using all grading criteria of knowledge, application, analysis and most importantly evaluation. I am up to date with exam board training especially with the change to terminal examinations that is feeding through. I understand every child has different needs and adapt to suit what needs are expressed. My long experience has taught me that humour, patience and perseverance are key teaching traits as well as learning skills
