Got a reluctant reader or writer? I can help and inspire them.
I worked in children's book publishing before becoming a fully qualified and GTCS-registered primary school teacher. I teach across all ages, stages, and curriculum areas within the primary sector. I have very high levels of literacy and numeracy. Publishing gave me a deep understanding of the processes involved in reading and writing. I enjoy bringing creative flair to teaching. My mission is to give children the tools to succeed in reading and writing.
My combined careers and my family background have given me a broad understanding of additional support needs and the challenges many learners face. I am multilingual and am able to apply my years of language learning to teaching English as an Additional Language.
I have worked in many schools where I teach across all stages of the primary curriculum (Early, First and Second Levels). I work with children with a broad range of additional support needs as well as children who are just starting to learn English as an Additional Language.
I have a particular expertise in instilling a love of reading into reluctant readers, and for removing barriers to writing while building confidence.
I focus on the learner's individual tastes and preferences and make tutoring sessions accessible and interactive. I mix games and ICT with written challenges. A learner's engagement is key to their success and I draw on their interests to keep them learning and ensure they regularly enjoy success. I prefer to teach in person though will be happy to tutor online.
