I am a Cambridge graduate, and have spent ten years working at two outstanding schools. I currently Head of History at a school ranked first in the country for pupil progress (2022), and have been Head of Politics in the past. My last class of A-level students all achieved an A or A* grade (80% A*). In our 2022 cohort at our non-selective, inner-city school, 89% of of pupils taking history achieved a grade 8 or 9.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked in the admissions office of St John’s College, Cambridge, providing guidance and support for students applying to top universities.
As a teacher and tutor, I believe firmly in high standards. I am excited by history, politics, and all things related to people and ideas, including languages, philosophy, and literature. My teaching success comes through sharing my enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, a wide range of academic interests. My lessons are informed by thorough analysis of the course being studied, and careful diagnosis of a student’s individual needs.

As Schools Liaison Officer, I provided guidance on Oxbridge applications to numerous schools of all types, through talks, workshops, and trips. I have been closely involved in supporting university applications as a teacher, and all my A Level students have achieved a place.

Mr Lomas has one of the greatest minds that someone can have. He has incredible knowledge on many things and it's his understanding that is intriguing. He has helped expand my thinking of things and definitely helped me understand History more. He has his moments of comedy and has been a pleasure knowing him.

I'm happy I can say I met such an interesting teacher and person. I've know him since my GCSE years and he helped me get an A in History when it wasn't looking very likely.

No one can deny Mr Lomas's sincere passion for teaching and learning. We also cannot deny that his fountain of knowledge is admirable. I am so grateful to have had such an inspiring and enthusiastic History teacher. He will be deeply missed next year, and the Class of 2018 wish him the absolute best in his studies and the future.
I am fascinated by the subjects I teach, and have invested in becoming expert in multiple subjects, and multiple topics within them. Moreover, I conduct detailed analyses of specifications, returned student scripts, and all available exam-board resources, to build an exact understanding of what is required for success on specific courses. I keep track of both my students’ marks and grades, and their specific strengths and targets. I combine knowledge of subject and courses with strong positive relationships, based on students’ trust in me as teacher, and my belief in students.
