I enjoy teaching and meeting new people. I am widowed, with two grown up children. In my free time I enjoy travelling, vegetarian cookery, reading, watching movies, swimming and walking.
I started my career as an English teacher in a secondary school in North Wales, but after a few years, decided to change to teaching English as a foreign language, which I have done for the past 30 years. I have taught in various countries, including Greece, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, and of course, the UK. I have taught through a wide ability range from beginners to advanced and at all ages. My work has ranged from teaching at private language schools to teaching on foundation programmes at universities and I have also taught privately. I have helped prepare students for Cambridge First Certificate and Proficiency exams and more recently university English exams. Much of my teaching has been general English, but I have also taught English for law and English for business.
I always use the first lesson to establish the needs of the individual student and then use that information to plan future lessons. It is important for students to feel at ease and I make sure I work at their pace. Lessons can be as formal or informal as the student wishes.
