I have lived in Devon for 8 years since relocating from the Channel Islands. I have two sons; one in primary school and the other currently doing A levels, so I am aware of the challenges education can place on children both as a teacher and a parent. I pride myself on my patience, attention to detail and a caring approach whilst also having high expectations. Having done this for a long time I can quickly spot potential and where difficulties may lie. My background and interest in psychology also helps in this!
I have been a teacher for 28 years and have taught pretty much every age and subject. The last few years I have concentrated on maths and I am currently a secondary school maths teacher at Trinity School in Teignmouth. I originally trained as a primary teacher which I think has helped me enormously to have the patience to help students struggling to understand. I have spent many years of my career providing additional 1:1 tutoring including school refusers and pupils who had lost all faith in school and themselves. I pride myself on my individualistic approach and being able to build rapport with students of whatever calibre, mindset or personality! Everyone is unique and each student has their own challenges!
I always work from where students are - not where they “should be”. This allows gaps to be filled, rapport to be built and confidence and self belief to grow. I am very open minded, patient and adopt a firm but flexible approach to each student as I find them. We generally get on really well. I try to include elements of fun and humour if the curriculum allows!
