I retired from teaching in a secondary school in August 2020. Since then I have done supply work as required. I have taught maths at all levels of CFE and Higher Still since 1992. I have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
Since September of 2020 I have been working with children online using zoom and a visualiser to allow children to view my working which is essential in maths. I have found this works very well (much to my surprise!). It also means the pupil is in the comfort of their own home and parents are not inconvenienced by a tutor using the dining room or kitchen table!
I have worked as a maths teacher in a mainstream secondary school in East Dunbartonshire for 25 years and have taught at all levels including Advanced Higher.
I have also enjoyed tutoring several children privately for the last 10 years, with the last four years being conducted through Zoom. Working with pupils online has been so successful that I am keen to continue working this way.
I like working with children individually to help them achieve their potential in maths. I would start to build confidence in your child as I have worked with many children whose biggest difficulty was a lack of self belief. I truly believe all children can improve their maths knowledge and skills, especially with one to one help, as long as they are willing to try and will complete work set for them.
I am not keen on setting too much work for pupils over and above their school work as they often have a reasonable workload in maths from their class teacher, and the hour or two we work together will require a lot of concentration which is quite tiring for the pupil.
