I am a 32 year-old female who has worked in both school and private household environments as a tutor and governess, both in the UK and abroad (as a teacher in a bilingual kindergarten and private tutor in Moscow, as a governess in Kazakhstan, and as a home-school tutor during the pandemic in Abu Dhabi, with a severely dyslexic 8 year-old girl). Since returning from living abroad, I have worked as a nanny/tutor across south and central London.
I currently live in Wimbledon and have availability from 6pm Monday - Thursday, and at any time from Friday-Sunday. In recent years, I have been focusing more on working with young learners (aged from 3-10), although I am happy to consider working with older children again!
Having worked across various households and also as a nanny, I am approachable, responsible and flexible towards the needs of each individual student. I am qualified to teach English as a second language, and have also completed an accredited course, led by the British Dyslexia Association, on adapting learning to suit those who may require additional help. I am currently enrolled in a course on working with autistic learners and plan to further study working with students affected by ADHD and childhood mental health issues.
I have often been told I am fantastic at working with young people and already have experience of tutoring at a wide variety of levels.
Glasgow, UK - I had primarily been working with GCSE students who are pleased with the progress they have made under my guidance. With my help, all have moved from obtaining a No Award or a C in their prelims to gaining an A and B marks in their actual exams. I have also worked with three A Level students, moving one student from a "No Award" to a "B" grade and the others from B to A grades.
Moscow, Russia - I worked as an English teacher in a privately run bilingual kindergarten with the youngest learners (aged 2-4), and additionally ran a summer camp with children aged from 4-7. I also worked on a private, ad-hoc basis with 4 separate families around Moscow.
Astana, Kazakhstan - I worked as a live-in governess, teaching English to a little girl who was a beginenr learner.
Abu Dhabi, UAE - Governess for an 8-year old child within a high net worth Emirati family, during the global pandemic. As schools were closed, the child required support with online learning due to her severe dyslexia. I worked with her and her mother to find ways to get around "traditional" pen and paper learning, by creating and videoing projects and posting them online to demonstrate her understanding but keeping excessive reading and writing to a minimum where possible. Where not possible, using dyslexia specific tools along with lots of empathy to work through tasks.
London, UK - Working with a variety of families as either a nanny or tutor, my most significant tutoring experience was preparing a boy aged 4 for entrance to a prestigious London school - this, at the beginning stages of the pandemic (before relocating temporarily to Abu Dhabi). His nursery had sent some suggestions for online learning which I used in combination with my own lessons in order to keep his education at a high standard through a fun, playful approach - using hula hoops and stones from the garden to teach addition and subtraction, for instance, and shaving foam and food colouring to do basic "science" experiments.

I believe a creative and relaxed approach to tutoring is best. I will be able and willing to tailor tutoring needs to the wishes or each individual and their parents.
