Engaging and patient maths tutor with a background in theoretical physics and passion for teaching. Whether you're struggling with your current course and need a more personalised approach tailored to your learning style, or already proficient and looking to challenge yourself to acheive your full potential, I can provide a learning environment that is suited to you.
A year's experience in tutoring, both online and in person, in maths and science.
My approach to teaching is to start by guiding my pupils through a gently increasing learning curve, identifying any gaps in their knowledge, but not simply correcting them when they make a mistake. Instead providing a
simpler problem in a way that allows them to disprove their own misconception, and deduce for themselves the correct approach. Once they are able to make their way through problems with the odd hint or reminder, I encourage
them to identify the steps they take when going through a problem. We then write up a guide to solving a generic problem of the type we are studying, that they can refer back to when working independently, and also later use as revision material. When the student is able to handle exam-style questions, I give them a little more challenge, with some more complex, multifaceted questions, that don’t just explore the topic in isolation, but knit together elements from across the curriculum. This encourages the development of mathematical intuition and a more in depth exploration of the material, using the learning process as a framework for future problem solving.
