Hello~
My name is Ani and I'm 30 years old. I'm half-Filipino and have always had an interest in different cultures, especially Japanese. I have a BA in Japanese Studies from Oxford Brookes University. This degree also includes an year-long study exchange at the prestigious Meiji Gakuin University, in Tokyo (ranked Top 35 out of 125 universities in Tokyo), where I received A and S ranks in all my subjects there, including Japanese language classes, linguistics, and culture and history lessons. I've lived abroad in both Philippines and Japan in the past, but am now solely based in Teignmouth. I have chronic health conditions and can no longer work jobs like I used to, so I'm hoping to use my Japanese as a means of income, and to help others who are interested in the language learn more~!
I have done plenty of Japanese-English tutoring over the years, on a mostly casual basis. I've tutored native Japanese speakers wanting to improve their English understanding and comprehension, and vice versa with native English speakers wanting to get a better grip on their Japanese speaking and pronunciation.
I helped tutor native Japanese students with their English while I was living and studying in Tokyo in 2014-15. I have also been a junior teacher's assistant for Primary School Art Lessons, and assisted with teaching and coordinating for Japanese Exchange Students of varying ages coming to learn in the Oxford area in 2013-2016.
My approach is to always be calm, friendly and patient with my studentsMy focus is mainly teaching and helping people improve their spoken Japanese. We will look at and practice pronunciation, fluency and intonation of the Japanese spoken language, as well as the basics and essentials like hiragana, katana and general sentence structures. I want to help my students to become more fluent and have courage in their spoken Japanese, and encourage them to be able to vocalise and pronounce their words clearly and correctly. Whether it's a student preparing for a Japanese speaking test, an anime fan wanting to learn beyond poorly translated subtitles, or someone preparing to visit Japanese for work or fun, I'm hear to help! So let's turn that kuh-wa-yee into ka-wa-ii!
