Xiao-Yi Anita

Hi! My name is Anita.

I am currently a postgraduate student at the University of Bath, and am studying an MA in interpreting and translating (French and German). I would love to use my skills to help others out, especially as I have extensive experience in both learning and teaching languages.

In my free time, I love reading, painting, and cooking.

Tutoring Experience

For a while, I volunteered at my Chinese school, where I helped young learners practise their Chinese.
I also spent six months in Northern Germany as a language assistant, helping teach English to students aged 16-25.
While in Germany, I tutored German children aged 11-16 in English, French and Maths for four months.
Additionally, I spent six months in Paris teaching English to consultants aged 35 and above.

Through these experiences, I have developed a strong ability to teach learners of all ages and adapt to a wide range of educational needs.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that incorporating fun into teaching is one of the best ways to inspire motivation in learners of all ages. While I have a solid understanding of grammatical rules and technical details, I appreciate that many students find these concepts challenging or dull when presented in a traditional format. To overcome this, I focus on making grammar more engaging and accessible, drawing on my own experience as a language learner to simplify complex ideas and help students connect with the material.

I also recognise that each learner is unique, so I keep my teaching approach flexible. As I get to know my students, I adapt my methods to suit their individual needs and learning styles, ensuring a personalised and supportive learning experience.
