Anna

I am a very experienced and enthusiastic teacher of English and have been teaching KS3 and GCSE English in Bristol Secondary Schools for over 13 years. I have a wealth of experience in teaching students from a range of abilities - from those aiming to gain a GCSE level 4/5 to those wanting to reach a 9.

I am passionate about working with young people and feel I am able to build a good working relationship with the students that I teach (even if they are reluctant!)

After having my two children, I moved from mainstream Secondary English teaching into private tuition and set up my own private tuition business. Alongside my own private tuition work I have spent the last 3 years working as a one-to-one English tutor for home-schooled children and children with SEN and additional needs. I am also a very experienced tutor for students with autism. I am currently teaching KS3 and GCSE English in mainstream schools again, but have availability in the summer holidays if you feel like your child would benefit from some extra support in English.

I offer a bespoke service and will work really hard with both parents and children to ensure I offer lessons that are tailored to your child's specific needs. I am based in Portishead but happy to travel to you within around a 10 mile radius.

Tutoring Experience

I am an outstanding teacher and have an excellent track record of success at both KS3 and A-Level. I have worked as an examiner for WJEC GCSE English Literature and I have up-to-date knowledge of exam board requirements for both WJEC and AQA. I have also been employed specifically as a GCSE English intervention tutor, focusing on raising attainment and ensuring that students gain a pass at GCSE.Throughout my teaching career I have held positions of responsibility such as Literacy catch-up co-ordinator and Subject Leader of Media Studies. I currently work as a one-to-one tutor for KS3 and GCSE English.

Tutoring Approach

I consider myself a warm and friendly individual who really focuses on establishing good relationships with the students that I teach. I enjoy getting to know my students and spend a lot of time planning work that meets both their needs as a learner and also their individual interests. I consider myself to be very approachable and am very open to feedback from both students and parents. I want students to enjoy and benefit from my lessons and am confident that students will quickly see an improvement in both grades and confidence.
