I have successfully completed a Masters in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Besides, I am a certified Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Having worked and taught for the past six years in two institutions, I have developed multifaceted ways to impart knowledge to meet the needs of diverse learners that I have encountered. I am keen to promote student centeredness, independent and life-long learning. Besides teaching/lecturing, I have had the opportunity to be a module leader, and as part of Module Leadership role, I have developed and reviewed teaching materials to ensure they are up to date.
Besides teaching, I also provide pastoral support and tutoring to students which I believe underpins teaching and learning.
Over the past six years of my teaching profession, I have taught and interacted with learners from diverse backgrounds; I have largely examined changes in behavior among learners and tailored my pedagogical approach to cater for their needs and learning styles. I am well-versed with my teaching approaches that promote active student learning. I shoulder my responsibilities beyond the core aspects of teaching to organizing other programs for learners such as inviting guest speakers and other voices from the industry.
Over the years, I have participated in a number of CPD workshops and trainings such as Curriculum and Learning Design, Inclusive Teaching, Safeguarding among others; this has ensured that I keep abreast with the changes in the industry
I try to model my passion for learning to my students. I embrace the constructivist approach to teaching and learning. The concepts of active learning and collaboration are central to my philosophy of education.
I believe that student-centered teaching promotes learning that is both purposeful and enduring. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to know who my learners are, what kinds of knowledge and experience they bring to the classroom, and what they want to achieve so that I can tailor a curriculum that
fits their needs and yet leaves enough room to accommodate topics that emerge. By assessing where my learners are with respect to our mutual learning goals, I can provide the scaffolding they need to build connections between what they already know and the new understandings they seek to create. I embrace case based teaching and other active learning activities such as role plays and group discussions as they stimulate intellectual camaraderie, argumentation, and cooperative problem solving and lay the groundwork for life-long collaborative practice.
