I am an enthusiastic, patient and friendly teacher who always puts the student at the centre of their learning. I believe that everyone can achieve, it is just a matter of finding the approach to learning that works for them. Unfortunately, not everyone finds this through the school system and this is where 1:1 tutoring can help.
I can provide a wide range of study support tutoring depending on your needs. I specialise in supporting learning and teaching how to learn. Often, we believe that learning how to learn comes naturally, but for many this is not the case. Support can help to remove this struggle, helping to increase self-confidence, self-esteem, and bring an enjoyment of learning. I can help in many ways: from learning how to read or structure an essay, to managing the workload of college and organising that folder!
I am a teacher with over 10 years’ experience working with children and young people. I have worked in sixth form, secondary and primary schools and I have spent 5 years working directly with learners with Special Educational Needs. I have experience working as a 1:1 tutor providing study support to students with a wide range of needs including learners with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autistic spectrum conditions, learners who are partially sighted and learners who are deaf or hard of hearing and have completed the Level 1 certificate in British Sigh Language.
In addition I have experience working with learners who are new to English or speak English as an additional language, and many young people living with a variety of physical and mental health conditions who have benefitted from extra support.
I tailor my tutoring sessions to the needs of the learner, starting from where they are and building up at a pace to suit them. I am creative, flexible, and fun in my approach to tutoring and use a wide range of multisensory strategies to support learning. I believe learning is always easier if you are enjoying it, therefore I continually reflect on my practice to ensure I am helping each student to achieve their very best, reaching their potential and above all enjoying the lessons.
Through my tutoring I am able to offer support with:
• Reading
• Writing
• Numeracy
• Revision
• Homework
• Organisation of notes/homework/coursework
• Building confidence
• Home schooling
• Returning to education
