Thank you for looking at my profile. I am a Durham University graduate with BA (2016; First Class) and MA (2017; Distinction) degrees in English Literature. In 2021, I submitted and defended my PhD, which was funded by the AHRC and completed at UCL.

I pride myself on academic excellence, achieving an 'outstanding' grade in both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. My BA dissertation was awarded the Jubilee Prize for best dissertation in the department. I was previously shortlisted for the BBC/AHRC 'New Generation Thinker' competition.

I have been offering private tuition for almost a decade. I have a 100% pass rate, with over 50% of my students receiving an 8 or higher in GCSE English Language (which includes one student who went from a 4 to an 8 in less than six months).

For Classical Civilisations (OCR), I specialise in the following modules: 'The World of the Hero', 'Greek Theatre', 'Imperial Image', 'Love and Relationships' and 'Democracy and the Athenians'. However, do get in touch if a module you want covered is not listed above.

I also teach personal statement writing and study skills, and offer a specialised coursework feedback service for A-Level English Literature and History. For more information, do get in touch!

Tutoring Experience

I have taught several students over the past few years, helping them reach their goals and achieve the grades they wanted. I am easy to get on with and am very aware of the different skills needed to do well in English Literature and Classics.

For three years I was a post-graduate teaching assistant at UCL, teaching on a variety of modules on the English Literature degree. I also worked in UCL's Writers' Lab, specialising in essay writing, study skills and research for undergraduate and post-graduate students. Furthermore, I spent three years as a Student Ambassador for Durham University, working on their Widening Participation summer schools amongst other outreach activities, and so I am acutely aware of how to help students achieve a place at university.

I'm also the author of a number of revision guides. The first (published in 2020) explored the 'Love and Relationships' poetry anthology for AQA's English Literature GCSE and demonstrated how to plan grade 9 essays. My next two guides were on AQA's English Language papers, in which I provided a wealth of tips/tricks and four sets of model answers. Other guides include a study guide for KS3 English Literature that prepares students for their GCSE work and another poetry guide that focuses on both the anthology and unseen elements of WJEC (Eduqas)'s English Literature GCSE. All guides are published by Accolade Press.

Tutoring Approach

I ask two things of my students: that they are fully alert during our tutorials and that they complete all homework to the best of their ability. Other tasks may be basic research tasks or answering detailed questions on a text, but I'll never ask them to do something that we haven't at least touched on during our sessions.

In exchange, I always provide thorough feedback on each piece of work completed and provide handouts at each session designed by myself so that the students have their own revision guide at the end of a unit. I am an exacting tutor with a friendly face - I approach all my students with a warm, patient, and comfortable manner that also rigorously challenges them academically. Only a combination of all these factors, I believe, will see the best results!
