I am a graduate of Cardiff university where I studied languages and economics. I have a keen interest in language and its social and cultural effects. I enjoy passing on this love of communication to pupils and take great pleasure in helping them to gain an affinity with the subject at hand.
I have taught in schools in the UK and Austria. I also taught private English lessons in Italy. I have a lot of experience of tutoring Maths and English up to comprehensive school level, and I have taught both subjects as a supply teacher in comprehensive schools across South Wales as well. I have more than 10 years of experience of teaching many different ages, from 7 to 40+.
I love tutoring and I like to try to make my lessons fun and interesting for my students so they are better able to remember what they have learned and to engender a real connection to the subject. I find that children naturally warm to my teaching style and they look forward to my lessons. I believe that it is important to tailor my tutoring style to the individual needs of the child. To this end I carry out regular assessments of their progress, including tests tailored to assess against the curriculum for their examination board.
I currently use CGP (WJEC version) books for reference and lessons as I find these to be the most reliable. It is helpful (though not essential) if your child could also have a copy of the same book relative to their subject and the related question booklet(s). These books cover all key stages and GCSE. If your child/you are not following the WJEC curriculum I can still provide tuition however you should be aware there are some subtle differences for different examination boards at GCSE level and above.
