I am a fear-fighter.
I help secondary-school pupils demystify Mathematics and turn their fear and anxiety into the thrill of discovery. I am very positive, patient and reliable and of course with a passion for maths.
When I’m not tackling algebraic fractions or integration, I am often working on one of my art and craft projects or in search of my new favourite book.
I trained at the university of East Anglia in 2012-2013 and since then I worked for years in a highly successful grammar school in Slough and in one of the leading independent schools of the country in Ascot. I have taught across KS3, KS4 and KS5, including Further Maths classes and I have honed my subject knowledge by becoming an Examiner for one of the exam boards.
With all my students, I endeavour to build a relationship rooted in mutual respect, honesty and clear communication. Always looking for the positive, I never sugar-coat the truth and constantly work on increasing self-confidence. Nothing good has ever come out of the “I can’t do Maths, I don’t get it” attitude, but much has from a more optimistic outlook. Even apparently unsuccessful strategies are important. If you were in a maze you would need to explore lots of dead ends before finding the exit.
Maths does not need to be difficult and I believe the key to a successful lesson are tutor's short but clear explanations and student's focus and attention. Maths cannot and should not be learnt by heart. On the contrary, the best way to lay down stable foundations is to question the 'rules' and understand the reasons behind them.
Dialogue and honesty are vital: no question is too trivial or "silly" and there is no need of feeling anxious about asking them.
