I am currently in my final year of studying the MEng degree majoring in sustainable energy at the University of Southampton. My native languages are Mandarin and Cantonese; however, I am also fluent in English as I am approaching my 9th year studying in the UK. As a student myself, I understand the difficulties and struggles that may present during studies and the frustrations of not being able to proceed.
To me, I enjoy the process of explaining to people about things that they cannot get a grasp on; I consider this a win-win situation as I am given a chance to revise the knowledge as well as guiding/helping someone through the problem. In addition, I consider myself a patient and an engaging person. I am familiar with the UK education system and fresh with materials, meaning that I can accurately identify the useful resources. I have had joyful teaching experiences from the past and I do believe that I can fit this role very well.
Mandarin Teaching Assistant
During GCSEs, I was an assistant of an A-Levels student in a Mandarin teaching class for an academic term. My main responsibility was to help to resolve questions that students had during class as well as preparing materials for the following lessons.
English Tutor Summer Internship
I worked for a tutoring organisation (JuNeng Education) in Guangzhou, China as an English tutor in summer 2018. I was in charge of several one-to-one sessions with students from the age of 7 - 15, and frequently communicated and discussed with parents about the progress. Additionally, I held several English promotion events and successfully attracted more customers.
From my past experiences of teaching and being a student. I have learnt that it is important to maintain a friendly relationship with students since it not only helps to create an engaging learning environment, but also encourages students' interests toward the subject, as well as feeling comfortable with asking me questions anytime despite outside of lessons.
Moreover, a cheerful mood can boost the learning experience effectively and help to maintain concentration. I would like to be the person who can give advice and try to resolve the issue if the student had anything bothering his/her mind.
