I'm a Biologist with several years of experience working as a researcher in academia (focussing on the immune system in cancer), and more recently I've been working in data science (involving programming & statistics). I've loved teaching and helping my peers since a young age. I started teaching remedial maths classes at school, and later set up a social enterprise at university to connect struggling student with mentors. I have been privately tutoring students from year 11 up to undergraduate level for several years.
Throughout my own studies, I have spent a lot of time learning 'how to learn' and how to manage time effectively. I would be happy to help you develop these skills and can also support with essay writing, practical classes/coursework, and basic data analytics.
I offer tuition both face-to-face and online via Skype. I'm available both for short- and longer-term tuition. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your goals and how I might be able to support you. I normally have an initial call and first lesson free-of-charge to ensure we can work together.
I've been working as a private tutor since 2011 teaching all the Natural Sciences (Maths, Biology, Chemistry & Physics) and Mathematics from KS3 up to A-level. I have also taught Biology specifically up to Undergraduate level and also supervised Masters/PhD students during their research projects & thesis writing.
I'm working towards the TEFL (teaching English as foreign language) qualification in order to teach foreign students English, and additionally I'm working towards an official Tutoring Standards certificate.
I’m a big believer in working with the individual. Each tutee is unique and, as such, I work with them to develop a plan tailored to their specific needs, goals & learning style - and importantly, to overcome any challenges they are facing in their studies. I also find it important for students to have a clear figure out out what really motivates them to excel in their chosen subjects and like to work this out in our initial lessons.
Regarding my teaching style, I encourage and help tutees to think critically & independently, and to focus on understanding topics (versus 'rote learning'). This can be tough but is essential when tackling Maths and Science. It also tends to be make for a much more engaging & effective lesson for the tutee & tutor!
