I am an experienced former Mathematics teacher, who has decided to reignite his love of teaching Mathematics, to support those who need it most. With my current role in finance, I am training to become an accountant through college, and would love to translate my own personal learning experiences into my lessons, sharing real life experiences of using every day Mathematics. I also have a secondary age child, who I regularly support with her Mathematics learning.
I have taught up to GCSE Mathematics in both secondary schools and colleges, with my most recent job focusing on year 10, 11 and adult students, with teaching students of all abilities, ages and backgrounds. This included during COVID, where effective online teaching was key to enabling students to progress effectively. In secondary schools, I have taught GCSE Maths to years 7-11, as well as sixth form students who were resitting their qualification. Prior to becoming a Maths teacher, I also worked as a Maths intervention teacher in a secondary school, which involved small group sessions of targeted students, using data to identify strengths and targets, which would be the basis of my lessons. Through both types of teaching establishment and job roles, I had incredibly positive results, and would love to pass on my Maths expertise again.
I teach a very data driven, strengths and targets style of teaching, identifying students gaps in knowledge and filling these gaps with targeted teaching and learning. This is also very student driven, where the student heavily supports the understanding of a targeted area and then practises this new found knowledge through practical, exam style questions. I find it beneficial to relate Mathematics learning to real life situations and bring that to life with my lessons.
