I'm a former tutor at the University of Oxford, having a postgraduate degree in English and undergraduate degree in Anthropology. I have taught Chemistry and Biology for the Oasis Charitable Trust, and can also help with interview preparation, essay structure, and effective ways of reading academic material. I am also an educational coach.

I always start with the response of the reader to the text, helping to articulate the appreciative or critical disposition that will provide the starting point for all future work on the text. Then we will explore the questions brought to the text by a variety of critical approaches, and develop ways of talking about the strengths and weaknesses of such approaches. It is important to me that A-Level English doesn't lose sight of this initial enjoyment of a text; instead, I am here to help the student develop a language to refine, expand, and challenge that initial response.
It's therefore crucial to my motivation as a tutor that what we make works interesting, focussing on the engagement with the text, and what kind of questions an experienced reader can ask of it.
