I am a published children’s author. I teach creative writing, with a focus on story writing, expressing ideas, sentence and story structure. I also run story writing workshops in schools. I have a passion for writing, teaching and all things creative.
Since becoming publishing my first book in 2012 I have been actively involved in schools as an author, running visits for book readings, signings and workshops.
Previously I have worked as a Teaching Assistant in a variety of schools for many years and whilst as a drama teacher in a SEN college for 2 years.
I am currently busy work on new books, whilst sharing my passion and joy for creative writing with children through tutoring and school visits.
I throughly enjoy working with children and encouraging them to learn and to stretch their ability. I particularly enjoy working with children to unlock imagination and to guide them to express their story ideas on paper and directing them in sentence structure to best bring the story to life.
I find it a joy to see children grow and developed in their learning, and love teaming up with parents to find ways to help their children improve and reach their goals. I like to offer a positive and creative approach to learning. One that builds confidence and excitement for creative writing.
My focus is on creative writing/story writing, so exploring how to structure a story, different ‘ingredients’ need to build it (character description, action description, suspense etc) and sentence structure. I am to help your child develop the skills, confidence and ability needed to express their wonderful imagination through their story writing and other forms of creative writing.
Whilst my strength and main focus is creative writing, I can cover comprehension, however I usually save the comprehension questions for homework. I enjoy exploring various books, including my own through comprehension questions, leading to a creative writing piece.
I strive to keep my lessons unique and tailor made to each child. I work from my own books and other childrens’fiction that I feel is suitable to each individual child with the aim of capturing and igniting their unique imagination. Areas I will cover is story planning and writing, practicing writing descriptions such character, setting, senses, action, dialogue, plus comprehension exercises (if this is required), writing for different purposes (included persuasive writing).
