I am a Cambridge graduate with a M.phil from Sheffield University. I currently work as an A level biology exam paper writer and examiner and so can offer extensive advice on exam technique and the best approaches to answering questions. I am an experienced teacher and have taught all of the major A level examining body specifications and also IB. I have taught students at all levels of ability and many of these have scored A*s and gone on to Oxbridge or Russell group universities.
I have taught in schools and colleges for over 13 years, and have been Head of Biology at a large international school. I was also in charge of guiding potential medical students through their college interview process. Before this, I worked full time as a private tutor for 7 years which I enjoyed immensely. I enjoy the challenges and the emotional rewards of working with students to help them achieve their best possible grades in biology.
Over the course of my teaching and tutoring I have built up a large resource of challenging and informative past paper questions and have many approaches to teaching difficult subjects.
I am enthusiastic and patient and have been told that I offer a friendly and safe learning environment where students feel supported, but also motivated and challenged to improve both their understanding and grades.
At the end of each lesson I offer to email over the resources that we have been using. These include a quick summary of the important ideas in a topic and also a collection of past paper questions and mark schemes. I've compiled these questions from every examboard, and have tried to find a wide range of different ways of asking questions on each topic. My hope is once the student has completed all of these questions, there is nothing that can be thrown at them that they havent seen before.
I try to strike a balance in lessons between being non-intimidating and friendly whilst also challenging my student's to think and learn. I ask my students at the end of our first lesson to give me feedback on what worked for them and what didn't and then try to tailor my approach accordingly.
