Calum

Hi! I’m Calum Removed an experienced teacher of both Politics and Sociology with seven years in the profession teaching in the state and private sector. I also have two years experience as a Politics examiner for Edexcel, marking Papers 2 and 3, meaning I know exactly what students need to do to get the top marks.

Throughout this time I have also privately tutored numerous students from a variety of backgrounds, helping them achieve what they need for university entrance.

In September, I decided to take a career break with my partner to travel around South America for 6 months which was a fascinating and enriching experience and this coming September I will be taking up a Head of Politics post at a school in London. In the meantime I am available full-time as a private tutor for those needing a little boost in the run up to the exams.

I am passionate about the subjects I teach but even more so about helping the young people I work with reach their full potential. If you think your child could benefit from my help then please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored alongside my work as a teacher for three years and have always found it extremely rewarding.

Whether it’s helping students hit the A* or move from a D to B to satisfy a university offer, I have a proven track record of success in progressing students to the next level.

I am not a professional tutor, I’m something better - a top A-Level teacher with first hand knowledge of the syllabus and examinations whose sole focus is 1:1 private tuition.

Tutoring Approach

I believe the way to be a successful teacher or tutor is build a strong relationship with the student from the start so they as comfortable as possible and motivated to achieve. I am an easy-going and friendly person who students will enjoy interacting with alongside their learning. Who said learning can’t be fun!

In terms of teaching, I like to use informal assessment to gauge where the gaps in my students knowledge are and use this to inform what each session should focus on. However, I am always responsive to the needs of my students and able to adapt accordingly to ensure they finish each session feeling clear and confident on what we’ve covered.

Having taught both Politics and Sociology for a number of years, I am able to use my in-depth subject knowledge to unpack and clarify any topic a student may be struggling with. Alongside this, I have real expertise in exam skills and essay technique, the vast majority of my sessions will include some sort of exam practice so that students are applying what they are learning.

My assistance is not over when a session ends. I am available over email and whatssap so that students can get my support whenever they need it. This also means I can send useful clips, articles or resources as and when I come across them.
