Cath

Hello, I’m Cath. My specialist areas are Maths and English in KS1, KS2 and 11+ preparation.
In my opinion, every child should have the confidence to shine. Learning is about developing open minds. Children should have an awareness of the world around them and their responsibility towards it.
I am highly motivated to succeed in all aspects of my life and to improve and support those around me. I strive for excellence in myself and those I work with.
As a Junior Rowing Coach, I was involved with the grassroots training of many national and international rowers, 2 of whom went on to become Olympians.
I love adventure and in 2014, I joined the Dream Challenges team to Hike the Himalayas, trekking to Poon Hill in Nepal. This was a huge charity undertaking and involved many different types of fund-raising from Pub Quizzes to a Showcase of Talent involving the local schools: singing, acting, dancing and a karate exhibition.
My family and friends are a huge part of my life and I have travelled the globe visiting them to places such as: Indonesia, Kuwait, South Africa and Australia.
I love reading, often write short stories and enjoy swimming, cycling, walking and indoor rowing.
My challenge now is to learn the piano.

'If your actions inspire others to think more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.' (John Quincy Adams) This is my inspiration

Tutoring Experience

I have worked within education for over 30 years and have been: Head Teacher, Class Teacher, Sports Coach, Childminder and Play Group Leader.

I have a deep understanding of the Primary Curriculum and keep up to date on educational developments. I have taught from EYFS to Y6. I have been a Primary Subject Lead for Maths, Science, Reading, Oracy and PE.
I have had experience of working with a wide range of children, many with complex special needs and always ensure that these children make good progress academically, socially and emotionally.
I am passionate about every child having the opportunity to reach their potential and to develop a lifelong love of learning. I look forward to tutoring your child.

Tutoring Approach

Ensuring that a child feels at ease is fundamental to successful learning. I am a cheerful, caring and honest person with a good sense of humour. I will listen to your child’s needs/concerns and will set agreed targets to ensure success. I will offer your child an individualised support programme which is innovative and specific.
Using puzzles and games, I will encourage your child to ask questions and discuss their thoughts. Using short challenges, I will support and scaffold the development of good reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Each session will interest and challenge your child so that they enjoy learning and develop appropriate study skills. I look forward to working with your child.
