I am a current A-level examiner.
I began my career as a biologist working as a post-doctoral research associate with the Cancer Research Campaign at the Universities of Nottingham and Newcastle upon Tyne. I then worked in the Biological Services division of Glaxo (now GSK). When I moved to the West Midlands, I worked at the Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education (CUREE) which inspired me to become a teacher.
As a private tutor, I am privileged to be trusted with the preparation of individual students for their examinations.
I am a director of 'Uni Yes or No', and have developed a system to help students make their decision about going to university.
I am a current A-level examiner.
I have 20+ years experience teaching GCSE and A-Level Biology, mostly in selective state schools, where I have an excellent record of raising the attainment of my students, enabling them to achieve top grades.
I have 20+ years' experience tutoring and and a strong track record, successfully working with students to develop their exam strategies, build confidence and achieve their desired grades.
My tutees have included students resitting Biology A-Level and I helped them improve their grades.
I also prepare students for Common Entrance 11+ and 13+ Science - Biology
I teach online using Zoom and I work hard with my students to build trust quickly, so that they overcome their fear of 'getting it wrong' and 'sounding stupid'. This helps the students feel relaxed and more willing to verbalise their thinking. This in turn gives me the opportunity to understand their reasoning, identify gaps in their knowledge and correct any misunderstandings.
I support students to develop revision resources and exam strategies as they go through the specification. The sooner they start, the easier the revision before the exams and the more question practice they have.
It is important that my students enjoy their sessions and grow in confidence throughout their time with me.
