In terms of my academic background, I studied English Literature at Oxford University, and I also have an MFA in performance from LAMDA, with a focus on classical text. I'm driven to teach because I love sharing my lifelong passion for literature and drama, and I've been told by previous students that it's contagious!
Alongside tutoring, I work freelance as a writer and documentary producer, and have worked on films for National Geographic, Netflix and the BBC. I’m currently tutoring part-time while on the Genesis Foundation Emerging Writers Programme, an initiative that supports early-career writers working on a first publication. Outside of work, I love spending time in nature and the outdoors, and am a keen astronomer.
I have been tutoring English and Drama since graduating from Oxford in 2012, and over the past decade, I have taught students from preschool age all the way through to Undergraduates and Adult Learners. I have a 100% track record of helping my clients to achieve A* and A grades in their exams, and I'm confident that I can make a serious improvement to any student's grades. I have worked for many of the leading tutoring companies including Removed but have gained many of my clients through referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations.
I’m proud to say I’ve nurtured an enthusiasm and ability to excel in English and drama in many students who previously struggled with these subjects, and have consistently helped students to achieve the top grades at GCSE and A-Level. I have also mentored adult learners, taught English in Zambia, and did several years’ voluntary work helping people who have suffered brain injuries regain their literacy skills.
As a tutor I am very friendly and approachable, but I also know how to keep a student focused. My particular strengths are helping students to demystify set texts they might be struggling to understand, to find more specificity in their analysis, to structure essays properly, and to really hone in on the detail of language (in my experience, this is the most important secret to achieving higher marks!). With my background in writing and the performing arts, I can especially help students who need help with confidence or communication skills, or who want to develop their passion for any form of storytelling.
