A qualified English Teacher with extensive working experience in the classroom and beyond, with BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge (2014), a PGDE from Birmingham City University (2019), and RQT status from two years working full time as a teacher in a challenging school through the charity Teach First (NQT received 2018).
Beyond the classroom, teaching KS3 and KS4 English to students with a wide range of abilities and special educational needs, I also have extensive experience in the practice of teaching other skills: teaching English as a foreign language in Skaramangas Refugee Camp (Athens); teaching Shakespeare’s verse to professional actors and students for nearly decade; teaching life skills to students through a full time pastoral role, and teaching myself to be a full time parent during the past 12 months.
I believe that learning happens in a state of 'flow', and therefore that engagement is crucial. My experience shows me that discussion, self-expression and following the interests of the student- which could be called 'soft skills'- are an effective foundation for the kind of engagement and self confidence that result in focused, self-motived work.
I know that clear, constructive feed back is essential for students to make progress, and that feedback should be timely and concise.
