I'm a 39 year old PhD student in architecture and anthropology at Paris-La-Villette School of Architecture. I have previously taught English and European literature, and hold a Master's degrees in modern European philosophy and literary theory. In addition to my background teaching literature and philosophy, I am also a bilingual French language speaker, and have experience teaching French as a foreign language, as well as English as a foreign language.
I have extensive experience teaching within the French public school system, and have taught at all levels from secondary school up to higher education. In addition, have over 6 years of experience of one-to-one tutoring in France and the UK, both face to face and online.
My basic approach to tutoring is focused on encouraging independence of thought and critical engagement both within debates and with the text. Teaching is focused on interactive lessons which aim to develop competences in key areas, such as written communication, essay writing and methodologies, oral communication, and revision and time-management techniques. Weekly sessions are designed individually to work on and improve problematic areas, and to prepare pupils to achieve excellence both in coursework and in their exams. My personal philosophy is focused on encouraging the expression of original ideas, and learning how to apply these ideas concretely within a rigorous framework.
In addition to teaching literature and philosophy, I am able to offer tuition in French language and culture.
Following recent trends in language tuition, my approach is focused on fluency and spontaneity across written and oral comprehension and expression. As such, a large emphasis is placed on learning and using vocabulary in a conversational setting whilst integrating this conversational setting into a broader framework of language learning.
