I have a passion for learning and love to share this with others. Currently, I am looking to take on more tutees to provide some extra income for my young family (we have an 18 month-old daughter) and help others to achieve the results they need in a core discipline.
I am a full-time teacher, going into my fifth year at a very high-achieving state school in the South-West. The department I teach in has achieved tremendous results in recent years, which I have been proud to be part of. We sit at +0.77 progress 8, meaning learners will achieve almost a whole grade more than expected at the end of primary school. These are amongst the top results in the south-west, both based on attainment and progress 8.
My approach to teaching is based around developing understanding and forming deep links between topics, so that no one topic becomes 'siloed' knowledge. This approach requires basis and strategic long-term thinking towards a student's needs. Once the core skills are mastered, I ensure diagnostic questions are used frequently to test for true understanding, as well as interleaved problem-solving to replicate the experience under test/exam conditions. Foremost, the wellbeing of the learner takes priority and I am extremely sensitive to the affect on anxiety levels that learning maths can often have on learners.
I also currently tutor two students (both online), one of them being a brother of a former tutee who was very happy with the service provided and achieved the results they were chasing.
