My name is Clair and I am an experienced teacher and tutor of English at Secondary Level, including GCSE and English as an Additional Language. I am passionate about my subject and always eager to help others improve and achieve their goals.
I have been lucky enough to travel and teach abroad in both The Netherlands and the USA. In my free time I love to read, travel and catch a film with my daughter.
I have been a teacher and a tutor for over 16 years. In that time I have taught iGCSE and regular GCSE English at key stage 3 and GCSE English Language and Literature at key stage 4. Last year I started teaching A Level Language and Literature, which I am really enjoying.
I am also an examiner for the AQA exam board, which provides me with excellent insight in my teaching and helps me to provide students with a better understanding of the exam they will take.
In addition, due to the time I have lived abroad, I have taught English as an Additional language. I have prepared students for the Cambridge CFE and CAE exams, as well as helping students who are new to the country with their everyday English. I have also been lucky enough to train international PhD students in presenting in English.
Furthermore, I am part of a team of authors who create lesson materials for a well known educational publisher. I have done this since 2011 and it is truly an asset. This allows me to always be looking for new ways to help engage students and help them to learn.
I am a calm and patient person, who will always go the extra mile to help students achieve their goals. I am always positive, enthusiastic and I am a firm believer in finding ways of working that fit each individual.
Prior to commencing tutoring, I will meet with parents/carers in order to gain a good understanding of the student's needs and how I can help in the best way possible. I will endeavour to refine exactly what is needed, so that every minute of tutoring time is optimised. Throughout tutoring, I am always available to discuss changes in needs and to provide updates and tips.
