I am an experienced teacher who has been a full-time tutor since 2020. I have QTS, a current checkable enhanced DBS, up-to-date safeguarding training and insurance. As well as tutoring after school, I also work with children who are at home during the day. I have a special interest in supporting those experiencing low Maths confidence and Maths Anxiety.
Although I do have a very limited number of face-to-face slots, I teach mainly online so it doesn't matter where in the country you are - you can access my support. I also offer small group sessions (at a reduced rate ). Online tuition can be convenient for you (no travelling) and good for your child as they are learning in their own home environment. I work with a lot of children experiencing anxiety and have found that online lessons are ideal. Children have the option to have their cameras switched off and occasionally I have worked via a 'chat' function as children do not want to speak. The important thing is that they are comfortable and able to learn. Some tutors will not accommodate these kinds of adjustments but I believe the right way to tutor is the way that works for your child.
I use online games and other interactive activities, as well as an interactive whiteboard to get the most out of teaching online. I can pass control to your child so they are interacting with activities as if they are on their own screen. Importantly, working online gives me immediate flexibility to change what we are doing, allowing me to meet the needs of your child at that moment in time.
I am experienced in tutoring all Primary subjects to the full Primary age range including preparation for Y6 SATS, Y1 Phonics Test, Y2 SATS (now optional), and Y4 tables tests. I also support children at Secondary school with Maths, in particular those with low Maths confidence aiming to pass Foundation GCSE Maths .
During the day I support families whose children do not attend school. Many have SEN/SENMH needs. I have supported families experiencing school avoidance, ADHD, Autism, PDA and life-limiting medical conditions.
I can offer you a free no-obligation call ( 15 minutes) so that we can get to know each other and I can answer any questions you have. I want you to be sure you have chosen the right tutor for your child.
I believe building confidence is key to success. I do this by making our sessions fun, supportive and ensuring your child achieves each time. I will identify, and address, gaps in understanding as I work with your child but I will always give them the time and space to feel safe asking for help, to question, to have a go and to make mistakes. These are things that aren't always possible in a classroom. Above all the will have time to fully understand before moving on.
I have a special interest in Maths support. Sometimes children tell me they ‘can’t do Maths’. I feel that this often stems from the fact maths is a cumulative subject, building on knowledge year on year. Gaps in the understanding of basic concepts lead to difficulties in making progress, a loss of confidence and the feeling that they just aren’t good at maths. I can support those with low confidence and those experiencing Maths anxiety.
