Highly experienced chemistry teacher and tutor.
I currently have a small amount of availability for A level chemistry sessions for students who are in Y12 or Y13.
If you are planning to resit chemistry A level in Summer 2025 I may also be able to help.
You are very welcome to contact me at any time.
I can answer any questions that you may have and arrange a free initial trial session if you wish.
Sessions take place via Zoom.
The majority of the students I work with have a regular session at the same time each week; however, if you need a more flexible approach then I am happy to discuss possible options.
Details of content
I am able to offer tuition for the chemistry A level specifications for the following exam boards:
OCR A, OCR B, AQA, Edexcel and Edexcel International A level.
I am currently based both in Warwickshire and East Yorkshire.
Having qualified at the University of Manchester, I taught chemistry GCSE and A level (and also physics GCSE) full time until December 2016, since when I have worked as a self-employed private tutor. I also work in a large school as an exam invigilator.
I have a very strong knowledge of the subject material and what needs to be done to hit those exam marking points. I have a very supportive and friendly personality and aim to put students at ease.
I am a very experienced teacher, having taught chemistry in schools from Y7 to A2 level plus GCSE physics for many years, and been a head of department (chemistry).
Teaching has included:
AQA GCSE (separate sciences and combined science trilogy courses)
EDEXCEL GCSE chemistry
EDEXCEL IGCSE chemistry
A LEVEL CHEMISTRY
OCR (both A and B specifications)
AQA
EDEXCEL A-level
EDEXCEL International A-level
I have up to date knowledge of the current specifications.
Since December 2016 I have tutored many students individually. Due to demand I am only tutoring A level chemistry students via zoom sessions at the current time.
Alongside my academic teaching, I have also held senior pastoral roles in school (Head of Year, Head of Key Stage and Assistant Head - Pastoral).
My priority is always to address the individual needs of the students and to build up their confidence. I can be very flexible and adaptable as to what is required whether it be help with a specific topic, working systematically through the specification, suggesting a variety of revision techniques, practising exam questions or all of these.
I strongly recommend doing some set work between sessions to consolidate what we have covered or to prepare ahead for the next session. I can also mark work electronically if required. I am also available between sessions via email or text if the student has any queries.
I am extremely approachable, friendly and supportive and aim to help students feel at ease so that they are not afraid to 'have a go', tell me if they do not understand and, hopefully, enjoy the sessions. Chemistry is a wonderful subject when you 'get it' and this is what I want to help students to see as they aim for their exam grades.
My first session is free of charge and will usually include a discussion of your specific requirements and aims of the sessions plus some introductory teaching on a topic of your choosing to see if you feel you would like to go ahead. We might look at some questions together in this session but there is no need to worry as there won’t be a formal test!
